上面这看似So...So长的话，其实只有两句话。下面我们一起来看一下.
1)第一句The eggs came, with litter paper packages of salt and pepper.
记叙是过去的事情，所以主句动词使用过去式came。主句The eggscame. 然后with litter paper packages of salt andpepper作伴随状语，即外有一层带着盐和胡椒的包装纸。对主句eggs作进一步的补充说明。
译文：鸡蛋端上来了，外头裹着一层带有盐和胡椒的包装纸。
2)第二句I finished breakfast,...........our breakfasts.
这是由第二个and连接前后两个简单句而成的并列句。并列动词finish，put, left, walk 之间顺承关系。作者吃完饭—放下餐巾纸—离开餐桌—走出咖啡厅。
第一简单句中，I finished breakfast, put the paper under myarm and left the table.是主句。Finish，put, left作并列谓语。with its used and useless paper napkin, paper placemat, and paper cream holder.同样作为伴随状语，是对主句中left的补充说明。
第二个简单句I walked out into... Our breakfast.中。主句是i walked out into the morning. 后面的Wondering how our national forests can ever survive ourbreakfast, 是分词wondering作伴随状语修饰walked，表示作者边走边思考。在wondering的分词短语中, 句子how our national forests can ever survive our forest作wonder的宾语，表示思考的内容。
